Trailer Trash: 10-22-07
Some movies just need to be on your radar screens right now. They're just begging for your attention and want you to see them. This is the part where I recommend how some of your future trips to the movie theatre should go. Watch the trailers. Listen to some choice soundtrack cuts. Get educated on some soon-to-be awesome movies. Build some hype!Juno (Opens December 14th in limited release)
When I hear phrases like "This year's 'Little Miss Sunshine'" get thrown around like candy, it makes my ears perk up. This quirky, funny little dramedy is basically a different version of "Knocked Up," with less raunch and more heart. Ellen Page is really starting to come into her own as an actress, and I can see more starring roles ahead of her. Michael Cera is on a roll after "Superbad" and this is another choice project for him, along with his former "Arrested Development" co-star Jason Bateman. I also don't know why Jennifer Garner chose to appear in this thing, but I give her some respect for taking the part.

Lars and the Real Girl (Out now in limited release)
If you're savvy enough to be living in a high profile town like New York or L.A. currently, hopefully you can find time to seek out "Lars and the Real Girl." Acting genius Ryan Gosling (who is apparently now hated by the female population for breaking up with Rachel McAdams) plays this socially awkward guy living by himself until he decides to order up a sex doll and pass her off as his girlfriend. Now that initial premise sounds interesting, right? Well, the movie's more about how everybody around him knows this girl is a doll, but for his sake they all pretend she's real. A heartwarming and touching story that doesn't seem like it, I've heard a lot of people saying they were pleasantly surprised by this movie.
The Savages (Opens November 28th in limited release)
At long last, Phillip Seymour Hoffman returns to his true art form- the indie film. Not that he ever really left it, but the last movie we saw him in was "Mission: Impossible 3," if that tells you anything. But PSH and Laura Linney team up for this dramedy about getting older and taking care of family at death's door. I know, it seems sort of depressing. It probably is, from what I can tell. But it also has the rumblings of an interesting comedy with more generally quirky, odd and random sort of moments. Like in a Wes Anderson film. But obviously this is no Wes Anderson movie. I do like what I've heard of the soundtrack though...
