Live Friday: 02-01-08
I'm trying to figure out if this is fate or irony or what. I can assure you though that it wasn't purposefully planned. You see, my first entry in January 2008 was a writeup of the Vampire Weekend album. Now my first entry of February 2008 is about a Vampire Weekend live performance full of songs from that very same album. But yeah, it was just over a week ago when Vampire Weekend stopped by the WXPN studios to do an interview and play a few songs. This was prior to the release of their self-titled debut album, which came out this past Tuesday. These guys have been getting probably too much love from too many people at this point in time, though I imagine I won't be hearing the band on the radio until summertime (along with an even greater surge in popularity), as most stations are about 6 months late on this stuff. By that time of course the backlash should be hitting the band pretty good, and we'll all be talking about something else while a new and larger group of people are just getting into them. But enough about predictions. The songs the band did for this radio session were of course off their new album, and for the most part they sound exactly like they do on record. What entertains me the most though is that it really truly sounds like the band is having fun when you hear these, and the energy is high as well. Impressive is probably the best word to describe all of it though. And I've said my piece, so let's get to it. Download away.
P.S.- If the download doesn't work, try again in 24 hours or so...it's a bandwith thing.
