Live Friday: 5-23-08
If you're a fan of ludicrously stripped down performances by bands known for their largeness, then I've got a big treat for you today. Hot Chip stopped in at WXPN yesterday to do an interview and perform a few songs, and the result is something I can't really ever recall hearing from the band. Most notably they either a) only brought a few instruments or b) chose to only hook up a few instruments to play on these songs. It's not quite acoustic, because there is one guitar that's clearly plugged in, but it's also not nearly what you've come to expect from Hot Chip. They played "Ready for the Floor" at about 1/10th its normal pace and brought it from a dance floor burner to a soft ballad. This is wild, wild stuff - especially if you've trained your ear on the beats and grooves of their latest album "Made in the Dark." The reinterpretation of these songs is starkly fascinating and shows a different side to the band. It may not be the electro-dance everybody craves, but if you've ever wondered if those songs can be turned around into something special and altogether different, then this is the session for you to download. Ahh, sweet! This is exactly what I was looking for. I heard the broadcast and wanted some mp3s of it.
I love Hot Chip - the live versions like this seriously make me love them more. I much prefer their iTunes Session version of 'Over and Over'.
