Trail Mix

And just like that, a new Beck track appears. We've been hearing rumors about a new album from Beck these past couple weeks, and while not a ton of details have emerged, we now have a new song to help ease the pain while we wait.

Tentatively the album is titled "Modern Guilt." It was produced by none other than Danger Mouse, and has a song (or two) with Cat Power. Rumor has it the album will be released in June, with very little notice beforehand. Seeing as how we have so few details already, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if that was the case.

If there's any reason to believe this new Beck record is going to be very good, take a listen to this new song "Chemtrails." I'd say this is something we'd never heard from Beck before, but the guy has experimented with so many different styles that it's a little bit of a challenge to call this song "truly original." But I like it. I like it a lot. There's a certain psychedelic quality to it that's just plain cool.

As a side note, because you'll hear it in the download, the song cuts off at the end. It is a rip of the audio stream, and the stream ends there. I can't tell you if that's the legitimate end of the song or not because I haven't heard the album, but my suspicion is that one track flows into the next seamlessly. So it'll probably make more sense in the context of the actual record. Unless for some reason Beck chose to give everybody a nearly 4.5 minute song sample and leave off the last 30 seconds or so. That makes less sense, I think. (EDIT: Apparently the song did cut off about 10 seconds early. I've re-uploaded the full version, which actually still kind of feels cut off at the end...oh, and this is a higher quality version than the link in the comments, FYI) So please try and enjoy the song as-is, because whether you download or stream, this is all you're getting for the time being.
