Live Friday: 6-13-08

Happy Friday the 13th everybody. Did you know that the accident and crime rates lower every Friday the 13th? Seems very suspicious to me. Almost like the date is playing with our superstitions in the grand scheme of trying to get us comfortable with the date before a mass wave of crime and terror happens down the road. I know it's true because M. Night Shyamalan told me so, and he's never wrong (except when he's making movies that aren't "The Sixth Sense"...then he's perpetrating crimes against humanity).

Anyways, the internets have been a-buzzing since mid-week about this radio session that She & Him did with Steve Lilywhite for WXPN. Steve Lilywhite, in case you haven't heard of the guy, is a sound engineer known for producing some of the all-time album greats, including albums by U2 and Dave Matthews Band. He's what some like to call a "hot shot." Naturally then, he helps make the duo of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel sound like pure sonic gold. It helps that Zooey has that smooth-as-silk voice, but compared to past WXPN sessions, this one seems to particularly stand out in my opinion. If you liked She & Him's debut record "Volume One," you'll love the almost too perfect renditions of these three songs. In fact, I may like these versions more than the originals. So download away, and stream the songs plus an interview if you're at all curious as to how Zooey and Matt respond to the softball (i.e. easy) questions David Dye serves up to them.
