Live Friday: 6-27-08
This week's Live Friday is all about Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner's side project with his friend Miles Kane of the band The Rascals. On record, "The Age of the Understatement" is an album filled with 60's throwbacks and symphonic pop, creating a very soundtrack-like effect on the music. You feel like you could hear most of these songs behind a James Bond movie or something. When they stopped by for their in-studio session on WXPN however, they came armed with only two guitars. Therefore all the violins and other orchestral pieces arranged by Owen Pallett (aka Final Fantasy) were not present. What you hear instead are stripped down simple guitar songs. It's a vastly different view of a duo that's created music that sounds epic in nature. It's also really fun.
