Live Friday: 6-19-09
Working through some radio sessions by bands who have released some of my favorite albums so far this year, this week we're tackling none other than Camera Obscura. The Scottish group's album "My Maudlin Career" came out just about 2 months ago and is filled with songs about love and heartbreak (mostly heartbreak). The band is out and about touring the U.S. in support of the record right now, and if your city is on their list of remaining tour dates, I strongly recommend that you buy tickets. As evidence of the strength of their live show, I present to you a session the band did on Minnesota Public Radio a couple weeks ago. They not only perform two of my favorite songs from their latest album, but also do a great cover of the Bruce Springsteen song "Tougher Than the Rest". It's a grand session all around, and if you choose to stream the interview by clicking the link below, you'll hear singer Tracyanne Campbell discuss everything from the band's favorite places to play in the U.S. to how they settled on a producer for their album to how autobiographical all those songs really are. Check it out if you're so inspired. But of course download the songs first and foremost. They're more than lovely.Camera Obscura, Live on MPR 6-6-09:

There
Nicely done, I don't know how you separated the tracks from the stream. They're in NY this week, and we're trying to decide whether or not to see the show.
They were on MPR, pretty cool, my hometown radio.
